It’s always nerve-wracking to submit your work for a contest because you worry if the judges will find the work worthy of recognition. I was delighted to learn this spring that all six of the pieces of work I submitted to our state communications contest earned first places, which meant all six advanced to the national competition.

I had to wait until June when the results of the national contest were shared at the annual NFPW conference in Ohio, and I was delighted again to learn that five of the six entries earned national recognition.

A news story I wrote about suicide awareness for On the Minds of Moms earned first place, while the magazine itself earned an honorable mention.

Impact Digital Magazine earned third place in the magazine supplement category, and a story I wrote about a Fargo couple becoming foster parents received third place as well.

A specialty article I wrote about historic preservation giving old buildings in Fargo and Moorhead a new chapter in their story earned an honorable mention.

A full list of NFPW communications contest winners is available here.
